HTC Desire HD Unboxing

The retail box of the HTC Desire HD has pretty standard contents: a USB charger, standard microUSB data cable and the usual paperwork. There’s a one-piece headset with music controls (play/pause/skip) and a CD with HTC Sync. The supplied headphones aren't your only option though, since the Desire HD has a 3.5mm audio jack. Also enclosed is an 8GB microSD card. The only thing we miss is a carrying pouch.

Key features:

  1. Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
  2. 14.4 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
  3. 4.3" 16M-color capacitive S-LCD touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
  4. Android OS v2.2 Froyo with HTC Sense UI
  5. Unibody design
  6. Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 1 GHz processor
  7. 768 MB RAM and 1.5 GB ROM
  8. 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and geotagging
  9. 720p video recording @ 25fps
  10. Wi-Fi b/g/n and DLNA
  11. GPS with A-GPS
  12. microSD slot up to 32GB (8GB card included)
  13. Accelerometer and proximity sensor
  14. Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  15. Stereo FM radio with RDS
  16. microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v2.1
  17. Smart dialing, voice dialing
  18. DivX/XviD video support
  19. Dolby Mobile and SRS sound enhancement
  20. HTC Locations app
  21. HTCSense.com integration
  22. Ultra-fast boot times (if you don’t remove battery)

Main disadvantages:

  1. S-LCD isn’t quite as impressive as Retina or Super AMOLED (lower contrast, more reflective)
  2. No dedicated camera key and no lens cover
  3. No front facing camera
  4. Quite heavy at 164 g (not that we mind)
  5. The two lids at the rear have questionable aesthetics and usability
  6. Disappointing audio reproduction quality
